  • It called as Dating Scan.
  •  It helps to fix E.D.D. (Expected date of delivery)
  • It can also pick up foetal heart activity.

It is a sonography test offered at 11 to 14 weeks of pregnancy to check

a)  Growth and development in first three months

 b) Uterine artery PI(For early prediction of pregnancy induced Hypertension/BP)

c) It also tells you about the probability of your baby having genetic abnormality( especially chromosomes number 13,18,21) It is not a definitive test but only categorises you as Low Risk or High Risk.

When combined with a blood test called Double Markers, the accuracy of the categorization increases to 90% to 95%

If combined results of these two tests come as high risk then Amniocentesis is advised for confirmation.

  • It has its own limitations.(as 30% of defects can be mivssed.)
  • This is commonly known as Interval Growth Scan.
  • It will check growth of the baby and will comment if it is corresponding to gestational age.
  • It is usually combined with Doppler study(colour snography) to know blood supply from mother to baby and in the baby's body.
  • It tells you about baby’s expected weight, amount of liquor and problems regarding placenta.
  • 3D/4D as name suggests, probvides you. 3D/4D images of the baby.
  • It is mostly used for better understanding of any problems/anomalies if detected on 2D USG.
